Peter: Hey Sarah! You seem a bit worried. Everything alright?
Sarah: Hey Peter. Yeah, mostly. It's just… university applications are looming on the horizon, you know? And I'm feeling a bit lost about where to even start looking.
Peter: Oh, I get that. It feels like a huge decision, doesn't it? But honestly, the more I've thought about it, the clearer some things have become for me.
Sarah: Really? You sound so confident! I'm still completely overwhelmed by all the options.
Peter: Well, one thing I've realised is how important it is to actually visit the universities you're considering, if you can.
Sarah: Oh, yeah? I haven't really thought about that.
Peter: Definitely! You can read all the brochures and look at websites, but being there, walking around the campus… it gives you a totally different vibe. You can just feel if it's the right place for you.
Sarah: That makes sense. Imagining yourself studying in the library or hanging out in the student common room. Mmmm. Sounds good.
Peter: Exactly! And it's not just about the pretty buildings. It's about getting a sense of the community. Are the students friendly? Do you feel like you'd fit in?
Sarah: Hmm, I guess that's something you can't really tell from a website.
Peter: Another thing to consider is whether you prefer big lecture halls or smaller, more interactive classes?
Sarah: I think I prefer smaller groups, where you can actually have discussions. I sometimes feel a bit lost in huge lectures.
Peter: Me too! So, I've been looking at universities that are known for their smaller class sizes in my subject. It might mean they're not the most famous ones, but if I feel I'll learn better there, that's what matters, right?
Sarah: Definitely. It's about what's right for you, not just the name of the university.
Peter: Precisely! Also, would you want to be in a big city with loads going on, or would you prefer a quieter, campus-based university?
Sarah: That's a tough one. A city sounds exciting, but it could also be distracting. A campus might feel more focused.
Peter: And don't forget about the cost of living in that area. Rent in a major city can be much higher than in a smaller town. And that will impact your budget as a student.
Sarah: OMG, there are so many things to consider. Thanks Peter. May I text you if I have more questions?
Peter: Sure! We're in this together, right? And who knows, maybe we'll even end up at the same university!
Sarah: That would be amazing!
